Politicians are too closely involved in district creation each decade. While it is impossible to remove politics completely we should be able to get sitting legislators hands off the maps.

  • Let the computer draw the maps with open and impartial algorithms.
  • Create an oversight board that ALL parties with ballot access get an equal seat on.
  • Have legislators be blind to the process with no oversight or ability to influence.

As long as we have single member districts politicians and the political machines they are part of will be tempted to make these districts work for them. We so often see districts that clearly sway one way or the other with few being any real competition. This is a sign of corruption and not good governance. This process needs to be detached from those in power as much as possible.
